Philadelphia Startups Took Home Over $1 million in Funding

PACT offered insights and opportunities for 1,000 attendees to succeed through collaboration, inclusion, and access

PHILADELPHIA – November 3, 2017 – Philadelphia Alliance for Capital and Technologies (PACT) announced the results of the PACT Capital Conference 2017. After a day and a half of keynotes, lightning talks, panels and company pitches, close to 1,000 attendees walked away with key insights, new connections and (for some) investment dollars. This year’s Lion’s Den was a home run.  After a full day of pitching, three companies were chosen out of 45 featured company presenters to enter PACT’s inaugural Lion’s Den. Roundtrip, Statum Health, and SocialLadder pitched their innovations once more live in front of the conference audience to five highly successful entrepreneurs. Three of the “lion” investors offered Statum Health $250,000 followed by SocialLadder who walked away with $800,000 from all five investors (the largest amount yet in all three years of the Lion’s Den).

“We are extremely proud of this year’s PACT Capital Conference and thankful for the investors of the Lion’s Den – David Adelman, Dr. Robert Corrato, Michael Wells, Sashi Reddi, and Rudy Karsan. The collaboration in the room was palpable and that is thanks to the entrepreneurs, who put their company on the stage, and the investors, who provided important insight and funding,” expressed Andy Hamilton and Jeff Bodle, 2017 PACT Capital Conference co-chairmen and partners at Morgan Lewis.

The 2017 PACT Capital Conference offered exciting new elements. It created a roadmap for the stages of successful collaboration and how startups, enterprises and investors become collaborators. The PACT lightning talks shared stories of when large enterprises collaborate with entrepreneurs across all verticals. The healthcare and technology tracks centered on the enterprise to startup exchange, mirroring PACT’s new Customer Connect initiative in which entrepreneurs pitch their inventions to enterprise buyers. Additionally, PACT released a new venture report by Pitchbook and in collaboration with Ben Franklin Technology Partners and others. Entrepreneurs and investors also connected one-to-one by scheduling business meetings through the 2017 mobile app. This year’s conference also featured keynote remarks from regional and national leaders: Polina Marinova of Fortune and Author of Term Sheet, Anita Elberse of Harvard Business School, and Jeffrey S. Moorad, Chairman of Morgan Lewis’s global sports industry initiative.

“The conference provided an ideal platform to connect entrepreneurs, investors, industry and thought leaders, and promote collaboration, particularly in the technology and healthcare spaces,” commented Morgan Lewis co-chairs Andy Hamilton and Jeff Bodle.

Award-winning Harvard Professor & Scholar will Keynote PACT Capital Conference 2017

Interview set with Harvard’s Anita Elberse on successful collaboration

PHILADELPHIA, September 29, 2017: PACT announced today that Anita Elberse, the Lincoln Filene Professor of Business Administration at Harvard Business School, will serve as keynote speaker on Wednesday, November 2nd.

An award-winning teacher and scholar, Professor Elberse develops and teaches an MBA course covering the “Businesses of Entertainment, Media, and Sports,” which ranks among the most sought-after courses in the School’s curriculum, and chairs a short executive education program, also named “The Business of Entertainment, Media, and Sports.” She holds various leadership positions at the School: among other roles, she serves as the chair for Convening and Special Events. In her research, Professor Elberse primarily aims to understand what drives the success of products in the entertainment, media, sports, and other creative industries, and how firms can develop effective marketing strategies for such products. She is acclaimed for her work on digital-media strategies. Professor Elberse has conducted case studies on dozens of entertainment companies, personalities, and other entities. Several of these are described in her first book, Blockbusters: Hit-making, Risk-taking, and the Big Business of Entertainment. To learn more, please visit Anita’s HBS faculty profile page.

The November 1-2 conference will explore the stages of success for capital, customers, and companies. The PACT Capital Conference 2017 will seek to create a roadmap for the stages of success and to gain a better understanding of how enterprises and entrepreneurs connect and collaborate.

“We are thrilled to have Anita share her research and experience with us at the 2017 PACT Capital Conference,” said Andy Hamilton, conference co-chair and Partner of hosting firm Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP. “Anita’s experience as a teacher of one of Harvard’s most sought-after courses and her expertise in the digital media industry and effective marketing strategy fits perfectly with the purpose of the PACT Capital Conference—to provide an opportunity for entrepreneurs to meet and learn from leading influencers.“

Each year, the intensive two-day conference brings together investors collectively managing billions of dollars in capital with entrepreneurs and professionals. The conference features company presentations, industry-specific panel sessions, prestigious keynote speakers, networking and high visibility opportunities to sponsors and attendees alike, all of which will complement the main focus: connecting the region’s best and brightest entrepreneurs and investors.

The conference will conclude with the third installment of the Lion’s Den, in which a few select companies will present to a “Shark Tank-like” panel of distinguished angel investors looking to write a check and power entrepreneurial ventures. Last year’s Lion’s Den resulted in over $1 Million dollars collected in the aggregate.

PACT Capital Conference 2017 will be held at the Sheraton Philadelphia Downtown Hotel culminating with the much anticipated Gala Reception at the Crystal Tea Room. For the latest information, visit our website:, Linkedin, Twitter (@PhilaPACT), and Facebook.
