Astarte Medical announced partnership with Gillette Children’s to develop tools to support the health and wellbeing of children with cerebral palsy

YARDLEY, PA, February 7, 2023— Astarte Medical, a pediatric clinical intelligence company, announced today it has signed a letter of intent with Gillette Children’s related to the development of clinical decision support and care management tools to improve the health and wellbeing of children with cerebral palsy.

More than 1 million Americans are living with cerebral palsy (CP), the most common physical disability of childhood. Caused by brain injury that occurs before, during or after birth, or in some cases by certain genetic mutations, CP primarily affects muscle tone, movement and coordination. It can also impact talking, breathing and eating. Children with CP experience extra challenges in their lives with independence and mobility. The initiative to diagnose children in infancy either at high risk for CP or confirmation of CP means they are able to receive services earlier in the most critical time of brain development when synapses are being formed. Therefore, early diagnosis and appropriate early intervention is essential to the overall development of the child. Clinical care pathways provide directional guidance for parents and medical providers to know a step-by-step, evidenced based roadmap the child will need to follow to optimize function and quality of life.

Gillette Children’s treats more than 4,000 children each year who have cerebral palsy. “Gillette Children’s is a world-renowned leader in the treatment of cerebral palsy,” said Tracy Warren, CEO of Astarte Medical. “We are fortunate to partner with them to develop clinically validated solutions to impact the care of cerebral palsy patients everywhere. Our combined efforts will enable population health analytics for these complex patients to drive the development of evidence-based care models”

Through this collaboration, Astarte Medical and Gillette Children’s intend to develop a clinical, evidence-based complex care platform for patients with cerebral palsy. ComplexCareIQ Cerebral Palsy is a real-time clinical decision support solution that enables clinical care teams to monitor and track clinical pathways for children living with cerebral palsy and track outcomes to optimize care and improve quality of life.

“For more than a century Gillette Children’s has been caring for children living with cerebral palsy and related conditions,” said Barbara Joers, President and CEO at Gillette Children’s. “We are excited to partner with Astarte Medical to leverage our collective expertise and energy to improve on our evidence-based approach to care and provide the best proven interventions and solutions to children living with cerebral palsy.”

Astarte Medical and Gillette Children’s came together through the KidsX Accelerator, a program that brings together the top children’s hospitals and talented digital health companies to build, test and deploy software solutions to make pediatric care exceptionally effective, safe, efficient, and convenient for children and families. The KidsX Accelerator supports early-stage digital health companies to achieve product and business model validation in the pediatric market.
