Woodcock Washburn and BakerHostetler Announces Strategic Combination

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

I am pleased to share the exciting news that Woodcock Washburn has just announced we will combine with BakerHostetler, an Am Law 100 firm with more than 800 attorneys across 11 offices, on January 1, 2014. The combined firm will practice under the BakerHostetler name.

By joining with BakerHostetler, we will double the size of our IP group to 140 lawyers, have offices in New York, Southern California, Washington, D.C., and other litigation and technology corridors, and broaden the scope of services we can provide to you. BakerHostetler is known for having one of the country’s top 10 tax practices, a nationally recognized litigation practice, privacy and data protection practice, and a leading middle market business practice, as well as a very strong IP litigation team. Like us, they have been named a “Go to Law Firm” for IP in Corporate Counsel magazine.

Our decision to combine with BakerHostetler was the result of a careful strategic assessment by both firms that identified compelling synergies in practice capabilities, geographic footprints, and a commitment to excellent client service. We came to believe that the opportunities this combination presents for you, our valued clients, were too good to pass up.

Our practices complement each other very well. Like us, their lawyers and scientific advisors provide a full range of IP services, including litigation, patent procurement, IP strategies, trademark and copyright prosecution, licensing advice, and standards and open source software counseling across a range of industries and technologies.

Our clients are similar, including many global industry leaders, and we focus on similar key industries, among them industrial manufacturing, technology and life sciences.

Just as important is the fact that we share the same culture and values with a strong commitment to meeting our clients’ needs in a collaborative work environment.

Thanks for your past support and I look forward to working with you and introducing you to some of my new colleagues.

Best regards,

Jeffrey H. Rosedale (Woodcock Washburn)
