Automation of the Manufacturing Industry

The Manufacturing industry is exceptionally fast paced and increasingly competitive, especially as new technologies such as additive manufacturing arise. Companies in the manufacturing industry must be able to react quickly to frequent scheduling changes and new orders- leading to a recent trend in increased automation technology expenditures.

By automation technology, we are referring to business management solutions that are designed and implemented to optimize a business’ operations and help them become more agile and competitive. In addition to simply implementing operational practices to become more streamlined, manufacturing companies are spending more and more time and money on management information systems (MIS) that will allow them to run even more efficiently, resulting in increased productivity and profitability. In addition to investing in information systems, such as enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, manufacturing companies are also investing in shop floor automation such as robotics to assist in the manufacturing process.
